TLCBD Park Captains foster clean, safe, and inviting parks in the Tenderloin by having a physical stewardship presence at the parks and positively engaging with park users and neighbors.
Responsibilities
- Positively engage with park users and nearby neighbors to create meaningful connections that foster a safe and inviting environment
- Greet park visitors and develop positive community relationships
- Deescalate situations when needed
- Carry out light litter pickup daily to foster a clean environment
- Support TLCBD-led activities such as arts and crafts and other youth activities by
- maintaining supplies and equipment and bringing them out for activities
- Assist with set-up and storage of equipment for programming activities as needed
- Fill out a daily shift report with data of number of park users and other metrics
- Participate in TLCBD Park Captain training and consistently practice techniques
- Communicate daily with other Park Captains, Park Captain Leads, and Parks partners to
- accomplish program goals
- Carry out daily job duties in accordance with TLCBD values
Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively and interact professionally with a diverse, multi-cultural, and
- interdisciplinary team and population
- Compassionate and empathetic communication approach
- Intimate knowledge of the Tenderloin neighborhood, either as a resident or professional (preferred)
- Multilingual (preferred)
- Experience with de-escalation skills or willingness to learn
- Willingness to learn TLCBD Park Captain policies and practices
- Ability to work outdoors for long periods of any time in all weather
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift 50 lbs
